MFP Baseline Report: Quantitative Data Analysis
The Masculinities, Faith, and Peace (MFP) project- an adaptation from the Transforming Masculinities intervention conducted in rural, eastern DRC- is currently one of a handful of normative interventions designed for religious congregations to reduce intimate partner violence, increase family planning use, improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes, and improve social cohesion by addressing the social norms that shape inequitable gender relations. As an innovation, MFP addresses existing social and gender normative barriers to family planning use and healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies through gender transformative programming.
This report summarizes findings from this cluster randomized controlled trial with 20 Christian and Muslim congregations in peri-urban and rural communities in Plateau State, Nigeria. These findings demonstrate several promising points of intervention to build upon as well as focus on for improving modern family planning use, reducing intimate partner violence, promoting gender equality and positive masculinities, and improving social cohesion and interfaith dialogue.
